Carly Black, Paralegal
Carly Black is our paralegal, and she started working at the Law Office of Michael Carlin in September 2018. A recent graduate of the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, Carly received a Bachelor’s in Spanish and International Studies with a focus on Comparative Culture and Identity. One semester of Carly’s undergraduate career was spent in Santiago de Chile, studying history at the Universidad Diego Portales. She hopes to enroll in law school in the future.
Carly is a native English speaker and is also fluent in Spanish. She loves to volunteer and has traveled to Panama and Peru where she worked with children. Recently, she has volunteered more locally; she was a legal interpreter in Dilley, Texas for asylum seekers coming from Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala. She can be found in the Detroit Metropolitan Area volunteering at events for the Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
In addition to interpreting, Carly has experience translating literary and technical documents. She also taught third grade Spanish in Ann Arbor for two years at Carpenter Elementary and Abbott Elementary as part of the Ann Arbor Languages Program through the U of M.
Outside of her work, Carly enjoys reading, playing instruments, and spending time in nature.
